Why we exist

UK employers do not have time to interview eight candidates per role to find one keeper. SM Recruitment was set up to do the work upfront so the shortlist is short and the candidates are real. Our desk runs on one belief: a hire only counts if they stay in seat at six months, and that outcome starts with the brief.

We are a UK permanent recruitment partner. We pick up briefs we believe we can fill well, and we are honest if a role is outside our wheelhouse.

What we do, plainly

Permanent staff for UK employers across ten disciplines. Each placement is run by one named consultant who takes the brief, vets the candidates, runs the offer and follows up at day 7, 30 and 90.

Who we work for

UK SMEs, mid-market commercial businesses, professional services firms and the in-house functions of larger enterprises. Mostly small to mid-market, with hiring managers who would rather spend less time on recruitment and more time running their teams.

How we vet candidates

  • Reference contact, current and previous employer where possible
  • Qualification verification where the role calls for it
  • A structured competency conversation, scenario-tested for senior roles
  • Written capture of salary expectations, notice period and motivation

Our values, the short version

  • Take the brief seriously. A 30-45 minute call up front saves a fortnight on the back end.
  • Tell the truth. If the salary is below market, we say so. If a candidate is not a strong fit, we will not pretend.
